Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. This page lists every one this site sets. It is a short list.

The three cookies

CookieWhat it doesHow long
Session cookie Keeps you signed in as you move between pages. Without it you would be signed out on every click. Until you close your browser
Trusted device Set only if you tick “trust this device” when using two-factor sign-in, so you are not asked for a code every time. 30 days, or until you sign out everywhere
Notice dismissal Remembers that you closed the notice at the bottom of the page, so it is not shown again. It contains the single character “1”. 1 year

Google Analytics, only if you allow it

USAMAF-WV uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which of its pages are useful. It is off until you allow it: the notice at the bottom of the page asks, and nothing from Google is loaded unless you say yes. If you do, Google sets its own cookies (named _ga, up to 2 years) and a cookie here remembers your answer for a year. You have not answered yet. Change my answer.

What this site does not do

There is no advertising, no tracking pixel and no profiling of any kind. Nothing follows you to other sites. Nothing is shared with data brokers.

All three cookies above are strictly necessary or set at your own request, so there is nothing else to consent to.

Third parties

Payment pages, including the donation page, load Stripe, which sets its own cookies for fraud prevention. Some forms, such as sign-in, run Cloudflare's spam check. Their own policies explain those.

A news article may include a YouTube or Vimeo video. YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, which sets nothing until you press play; once you play a video, YouTube's or Vimeo's own policy applies.

Your browser's own storage

Staff tools keep a few working settings in the browser rather than in a cookie, and they never leave it: an unsaved article draft, how the file library is laid out, and the till's link to its cash drawer.

Managing cookies

Your browser can show, delete and block cookies. Blocking the session cookie will stop you being able to sign in.
